I love this picture. Eureka O'Hara is a real gem here in the Tri-Cities area.  She is a fierce ally for our fractured LGBT community.. And of course on the other side of me is my lovely man, my love, my friend and confidante.

Thought For Today: That Thou Art!

Brahman he is and Brahman he goes… "Aryans had always considered themselves inherently superior to others; their [religious] rituals had bred within them a deep sense of entitlement that had fueled their raids and conquests. But the Upanishads taught that because the atman, the essence of every single creature, was identical with the Brahman, all beings shared the same sacred core…Everyone liked to imagine that he was unique, but in reality his special distinguishing features were no more permanent than rivers that all flowed into the same sea.   Once they left the riverbed, they became “just the ocean” no longer claiming their individuality, crying “I am that river, “   “ I am this river.” Such strident assertion of the ego was a delusion that could only lead to pain and confusion. Release (moksha) from such suffering was dependent on the profound acknowledgement that at base everybody was Brahman and should therefore be treated with absolute reverence. The Upanishads...

Personal Credo

This morning my freshman class shared with each other their own personal credo. Instructors spent a full week discussing values, beliefs, and diversity of thought.  This morning they shared aloud with each other. I believe they enjoyed this assignment. Some of them put a lot of thought into this. I learned quite a bit from them this morning. I informed them a couple of weeks ago that I would be participating in this exercise with them. Here's what I brought to the table: I believe that women have the right to their bodies and control over their reproductive choices. I believe that our government has a responsibility to its poorest citizens. I don’t advocate for the use of the death penalty. Peacemaking and rehabilitation is a better use of our criminal justice dollars than putting people to death. I believe that our country should be a haven for those seeking a better life. Most of us are not more than two generations past Ellis Island. We are a nation of i...

The great voodoo lily harvest. Last years bulbs increased in size (not as much as I had hoped) and there are lots of babies. Gonna let them dry and then store them for the winter.

My Jade Tree was wounded earlier this summer. Look at what I found popping out of the leaf!  Plants have such regenerative properties. O that we could be more like these autotrophs at times. I found another leaf straggler this evening. It has sprouted sitting atop the stem of a Carrion Plant (Stapelia gigantea). I just think that life wants to happen. N'est-ce pas?
